The Week Ahead
Game tomorrow, 5/20 Rain Makeup, and All Stars
Good Afternoon Brewers,
6pm vs Reds @ Gio Field (MHS)
We had a Juniors game there last night and traffic on Canton Ave. has been less than ideal, please plan accordingly.
5/20 RAIN MAKEUP
We have a tentative make up date of Wednesday 5/31 6pm vs Blue Jays @ Andrews. You will see it updated on the app and site once this has been confirmed/approved by the league. I know that means 3 games in 3 nights, but we have to get these games in and the Blue Jays already have the field for a practice. Remember that the availability in the app will be for the original date and time, so please update if your player CAN'T make it.
If you are new to the league, they put on a fun All Star event where each team gets to send 3 players to represent them in the All Star game (6/3 -5pm @ Gio). There are different methods in choosing players, I chose to let our players decide who they would think best represent our team. The team started voting at Sunday's practice and we will have the players that weren't at practice finish voting before tomorrow's game. After the game, we will announce the 3 All Stars. It's a fun night and we encourage the entire team to come out and support their teammates.
I think that's enough for now, GO Brewers!
NO GAME TODAY - postponed due to expect rain.
Good afternoon Brewers,
I spoke with the Blue Jays head coach and we decided it was best to call the game now with the anticipated rain. The rain should not affect our practice for tomorrow though so I hope to see most of our players.
Also, I think most of you who have the app got the notification about a change in date and time for our game on 6/3. Because it is All Star day, the game against the Tigers was originally scheduled for 9:00am and our opponent can't field a team with soccer conflicts. I know we have a few soccer players on our team as well so we've moved that game to 6/2. We don't normally have a Friday event, but we haven't had a problem with attendance thus far and should be able to field at least 7/8 players.
Stay dry Brewers!
Good Morning Brewers!
Just a few reminders for this week, we have a few events in the next 4 days.
vs. Orioles 6pm @ Cunningham
vs Blue Jays 3pm @ Andrews
Practice 3:30pm @ Kelly
Rain is expected for the weekend, I will let you know asap if the game and/or practice is canceled. I apologize we haven't had more practices, between my own softball schedule and lack of fields, it's been hard to find time to book one.
Game Day Reminders -
-Please remember to update your players availability for all events.
-Please show up 20-30 mins prior to game time.
Coach Heather puts a lot of thought into our game plan and lineups in advance and this will help us avoid any stressful last minute changes.
Good morning Brewers!
Reminder that we have a game at 6pm at Andrews today and it looks like we'll have the whole crew today! I understand traffic is not ideal at this hour at the square, so please plan accordingly for getting there 20-30 mins before game time.
Good evening Brewers!
The rain just doesn't stop huh? Hopefully the weather will hold out because we have 3 games in the next 5 days!
Just wanted to send out an updated schedule for this week:
6pm @ Milton Academy (550 Randolph Ave)
1pm @ Gio Field (MHS)
3:30pm @ Kelly
This is the make up from the 4/27 rain out. There have been a few rainouts and limited field availability. We already had the field for practice so it made sense to use this slot for the make up. However, there is a glitch in moving the game on the site, it still shows the RSVPs for 4/27. Please please please, update your availability if you CAN'T make it, either on the site, app, or respond here so we know. Right now, it shows everyone is attending except Aurora Sullivan.
Reminders for game day
Please continue to update your player's availability.
Please show up 20-30 mins before game time.
Today's practice is cancelled.
Good morning Brewers,
What a rainy day! So no surprise, practice is cancelled. I'll try to book another one at some point this week.
FYI next Sunday's practice is most likely going to be the make up game for last Thursday's rain out. I'm just waiting for confirmation from the league.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Good evening Brewers!
What a way to kick off the season with a parade, pizza, sweets and a win! The girls looked really good out there for playing their first game ever together. The bats were hot, they were hustling in the field and making good plays. I am currently waiting for approval for a 5-6 practice at Kelly field on Wednesday, if it gets approved, it should show up on Crossbar. I know it's last minute and this even conflicts with Ellie's soccer practice, but I'll be there if anyone wants extra reps!
Now that the season has started I just want to throw out some reminders....
-Please arrive 30 mins prior to game start time.
-Continue to update your player's availability on the Crossbar App (I really appreciate that the entire team did this for the first game!) We are required to give all kids balanced playing time and rotate them in the infield, outfield and bench which takes some planning and that's hard to do if we're unsure of who is available.
Ultimately our coaching staff is responsible for the behavior of our parents and fans. It does not seem like it will be a problem for our team, but just a few reminders.
-No heckling or taunting.
-Positive cheering for our team is always encouraged, but never negative cheering for the other team.
-Players, coaches and fans must be respectful towards the umpire. Please remember these are HS students who are doing their best. FYI for any plays they deem close, they have been trained to give the call to the defense to encourage making plays.
As you've seen in the first game, it is not an easy position to play. Although not required, we're fortunate to have 4 players who have or are currently taking pitching lessons. The league rule for pitchers is they "have to demonstrate an ability to throw 50% strikes in practice before being inserted into the game" Regardless of the rule, for the first few games, we will pitch any girls who are genuinely interested in the position. With that said, it will be their responsibility to put in the work at practices and on their own(practicing at home or pitching lesson). I will try to book extra practices just for pitchers. We are by no means professional pitching coaches, but we will work with any girls who are interested. After 3 weeks or so, we will switch to all kid pitch and hope to establish pitchers by then. There will be no coach pitch in the playoffs.
Any parents who want to learn the pitching fundamentals to bring home to work with your player, please reach out to me and I will be happy to go over it with you at the end of a practice.
Thursday 4/27 @ 6pm at Kelly vs Dodgers
I think that's enough for now....go Brewers!
I hope all of you are enjoying your April break. The start of the season is fast approaching so just wanted to send out a few reminders.
We have a practice this Friday 4:30-6 at Kelly field. I know some of you might be away for the break, but it would be nice to get together one more time before the season starts Saturday. I will also be passing out uniforms for players that couldn't make the first practice. Going forward, I would like to have practice at least once a week. (some weeks we have Sunday practices already scheduled, but I might throw in some weeknight practices for the other weeks if I can find an available field)
Although, I will be there doing a lot of duties as a MGS board member, I hope to see the Brewers show up to represent at the opening day parade. Our team will meet at the corner of Edgehill/Reservation @ 12pm and march down together to the field. There will be an opening ceremony and shortly after there will be pizza, music and bounce houses! Please wear your jerseys and feel free to bring your entire family!
Don't party too hard at the opening ceremony, we do have a game at 3pm vs the Blue Jays at Andrews Park after.
We strongly encourage you to download this app, so you always know where and when we're playing. This is also where you'll let the team know if you can or can't make a game. It would really be helpful for the coaches to have an idea of who will be at the game for game planning purposes. I kindly ask that you please try your best to respond regarding your daughter's game day availability.
That's all the info I have for now, go Brewers!
Good afternoon Brewers!
With the start of the season fast approaching, we would like to try to get in at least two practices. I understand we have holidays and April vacation coming up, but also the League has not yet allowed coaches to start officially requesting practice fields. Therefore, we're going to attempt a very informal practice this Friday at 5:00pm. I also recognize it's Good Friday so no pressure or obligation to attend.
Let's plan to meet at Kelly Field from 5:00-6:30. If no one is using the field, we can take it. If the field is in use we can practice in the deep outfield area.
If there are any changes I'll send a follow up.
On behalf of fellow coaches Pam Azar, Heather Goodhue, Jake Maliel and Jason Sullivan, I wanted to take a moment to welcome you and your daughter to the Brewers! The spring season is almost here and I hope your daughter is looking forward to getting on the field, playing/learning softball while making new friends.
For anyone new to softball, Sophomore softball is focused on fundamentals of pitching, throwing, catching, hitting, and base running. For any player who has moved up from Freshwomen, a major change is there will be a combination of player pitch and coach pitch. We will see which players are interested in pitching and we will work with them in practices. If you’re looking for more formal pitching lessons, MGS will be offering lessons in the near future.
I’ll let you know when the uniforms come in. Please be sure to get your player a glove and face mask (required for all infield positions). The team bags will be equipped with a limited number of face shields, batting helmets and possibly bats to share. Be sure to use the 20% off coupon for the MGS weekend at Dick’s Sporting Goods (3/31-4/3) if you’re looking to get any new equipment.
Please refer to the website www.miltonsoftball.com for all the information you’ll need for the spring season OR download the Crossbar App which will be your best way to get team info and schedule.
I will be in touch soon about getting together for scheduled practices before the season starts so the girls can meet their teammates and coaches. Feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.
Looking forward to a fun season coaching your kiddos!

3 games this week, All Star Game, Sunday Practice.
Yes, you read that right. We have our rain make up, regular weekly game, and our rescheduled game. Please continue to update your player's availability for each game. Please plan accordingly for getting across the square and finding parking for the 2 Andrews games.
6pm vs Blue Jays @ Andrews
6pm vs Dodgers @ Kelly
6pm vs Tigers @ Andrews Park
(potential for a team trip to Dairy Freeze after if anyone is interested)
If you STILL haven't had enough softball this week, the Sophomore All Star game is on Saturday 6/3 5pm @ Gio. Feel free to come down and cheer for all the players, but especially your Brewers All Stars (Ellie, Emmy and Lillie G).
3:30 @ Kelly
There will be a Juniors make up game 2-4 that will push into our practice time, so we will start our practice in the deep outfield. It will be Coaches Jake, Peou and Pam's Phillies vs Coach Jason's Marlins, it should be fun if anyone wanted to come early to watch several of the Brewers' older siblings play against each other.
That's all for now folks, Go Brewers!
